The island you deserve!

We fell in love with this tiny Cuban island during our first visit in March 1999 and then we returned 15 times. After our second visit to Cayo Largo, we decided to build a website, we took a lot of photos, gathered all the relevant information and then we had our website up and running in February 2000. Recently we have completely redesigned the site into a new format. You may still access the previous versions by clicking on the following link: History of cayolargo.net. We like to go there, at least once a year, to really get away from it all and also to meet our Cuban friends!

Click to see a ©Google Earth satellite MAP of Cayo Largo. We added interesting points on the map (1024x768 pixels 200 KBytes). We will get a better picture of the island.

Cayo Largo is a natural paradise where you feel a little like Robinson Crusoe, away from city life! A virgin island for people who like nature and the wildlife and are looking for a non-commercial quiet place. There is an easy-going atmosphere in Cayo Largo, this is why this destination has been known to be « gay friendly » since its debut. Live and let live! That's the spirit! :o)

If you are looking for a party like ambiance, hectic nighlife, shopping malls, big restaurants or a McDonald's, you will be very disappointed! But, if you are looking for tranquillity, a relaxed atmosphere, an unpretentious comfort, the opportunity to practice naturism on endless gorgeous virgin beaches... then Cayo Largo might be for you!

Cayo Largo has been voted the most beautiful naturist beach in the UK Bare Beaches guidebook (June 2004 edition).

Cayo Largo has been awarded no4 on 100 preferred destinations by tourists in 2008, according to tripadvisor and no2 in the Caribbean. Way to go!

*** ATTENTION *** Especially in Playa Sirena we will find starfishes. These beautiful creatures are alive and die when exposed to air. For respect to marine life, do not take them out of the water. This applies to any other marine species. Remember there are fines of over $ 300 if you get caught in your luggage, corals and other marine species. Be respectful. It will be a shame to see these species disappear.

This is the return of pelicans in Cayo Largo, who had left the island since Hurricane Michelle in November 2001. What a pleasure to watch them dive for delicious fishes :o)
